Practical Workforce Strategy Library

Practical support for the everyday moments staff are already managing.

Workforce capability is not built through theory alone. Staff also need practical examples they can connect to the children, families and situations they are seeing every day.

This library is being developed as a practical extension of the Play Move Improve workforce training pathway, with support around regulation, movement, sensory needs, play, transitions, participation and family communication.

This library is still being expanded.

The pages below show the capability areas the library will support. If your organisation needs practical workforce training now, contact Robyn rather than waiting for the full library to be completed.

Why a strategy library matters

Staff need somewhere practical to go after the training session.

Professional learning is more useful when teams can return to practical examples, prompts and shared language after the session has finished.

A staff member may understand the idea of regulation during training, then face a child the next morning who refuses to enter the room, runs between activities or becomes distressed when it is time to leave.

That is the point where practical implementation matters. Staff need examples that help them connect the principle to what is happening in front of them.

This library is designed to become that bridge between learning and everyday practice.

Strategy areas

Practical capability across the moments that commonly challenge teams.

These are the core areas the strategy library will continue to build around.

Regulation

Support before escalation

Practical prompts for noticing early signs of overwhelm, shutdown, distress, high movement seeking and emotional escalation.

Movement

Use the body to support participation

Practical ideas around movement, body awareness, posture, balance, heavy work and active participation.

Sensory needs

Adapt the environment

Examples of small changes to sound, visual load, touch, movement, space and routines that may help children participate.

Play

Create easier entry points into play

Ideas for supporting side-by-side play, shared attention, turn taking, joining activities and participation with peers.

Transitions

Support the child before the hard moment

Practical strategies for arriving, leaving, packing up, moving between spaces and joining shared activities.

Families

Use compassionate language

Practical wording for sharing observations with families without blame, diagnosis or overly clinical language.

For workforce leaders

A library can also help make training more sustainable.

The aim is not simply to give staff more resources. It is to create a practical reference point that reinforces the same language and approach across the organisation.

Staff can use it to

  • Refresh ideas after training
  • Find practical strategies for common situations
  • Use shared language with colleagues
  • Reflect before reacting
  • Consider simple environmental changes
  • Prepare for family conversations

Leaders can use it to

  • Support onboarding
  • Reinforce workforce training
  • Build consistency across teams
  • Support reflective practice conversations
  • Reduce reliance on individual staff knowledge
  • Keep capability building active after training
