Primary School Teachers
Free movement activities you can actually use in the classroom
Understanding why a child finds a movement difficult is important, but teachers also need somewhere practical to go next.
I have been building short movement activities that can fit into a normal classroom day without needing a PE lesson, specialist equipment or a large amount of preparation.
Rather than recreating those activities here, I have linked this section directly to the free Play Move Improve video library so you can move from understanding the skill to trying something straight away.
Free practical resources
Open the free classroom movement video library
Browse short movement activities you can use with individual children, small groups or the whole class.
What can these activities support?
Crossing the midline
Give children more opportunities to reach across their body and coordinate both sides together.
Body awareness
Help children notice where different parts of their body are and how they are moving.
Coordination
Practise simple movement patterns before expecting more complex sport or classroom movement.
Rhythm and sequencing
Use clapping, tapping and movement patterns to practise timing and remembering sequences.
Core and postural control
Include movements that ask children to stabilise their body while their arms and legs move.
Movement confidence
Give children achievable movement experiences before asking them to keep up in more demanding activities.
